Phil Gould Ph.D, FRSC, MIoD

Phil Gould was educated at Hull University with a Special Honours Degree in Chemistry and then a PhD in chemical kinetics. He is a Chartered Chemist, an Honorary Professor of Industrial Pharmacy and a Member of the Institute of Directors. Phil has also been an expert witness in patent litigation, and a business advisor to universities. Phil set up and is Chief Executive of Jadara Pharma, a Healthcare Business Consultancy focusing on business strategic planning and new product introduction.

 

Phil joined Reckitt and Colman Pharmaceuticals Division in 1978 working in the area of drug design. From 1980 to 1985, he held a range of scientific roles with Pfizer Central Research and worked with the teams that discovered and developed fluconazole. He then joined Lederle Laboratories (now part of Wyeth) as Senior Manager in Pharmaceutical Development working closely with the Commercial and product supply groups. He later joined Glaxo, progressing through functional, divisional and site roles, which increased in seniority. In 1995 he was appointed to the post of Head of New Product Introduction, responsible for Glaxo's UK New Product Supply Technology across its 4 manufacturing sites working closely with R&D and Commercial groups across the world. Phil went on to become Chief Executive Officer of Provalis PLC, a pharmaceuticals and diagnostics group, leading it to its first profit and to enter European markets for its pharmaceutical products and the USA market for its diagnostics products.                            

  

Phil is an experienced non-executive director and held board positions at Lectus Therapeutics Ltd and Bradford Pharmaceuticals Ltd, and is currently Executive Chairman of Well Travelled Clinics Ltd and a non-executive director of RedX Pharma Ltd and Liverpool International Health Ventures Ltd. At RedX Pharma Phil also chairs the Scientific Advisory Board.

                                      

In mid-2006 Phil also took up the part-time position of Chief Business Officer for the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine supporting its business spin out ventures, which already have turnover of several million pounds, business development through a series of international colaborations and its funding processes to support its research and development of products to combat malaria and other tropical diseases. Phil has negotiated relationships with both major pharmaceutical companies and biotechnology companies and also government scientific institutions internationally to support the School's work.
